Health Care…..I was just thinking……
Did you know
that there is documentation literally scientific study proving that optimists
catch fewer infectious diseases than pessimists and are less susceptible to
serious health problems in middle and old age. The scariest evidence found in
this ongoing 50 year study of the health of two hundred Harvard men is that optimism
at age 25 strongly predicts health at age 60. Beginning around age 45, the
pessimists begin to develop more diseases of middle age, and to suffer more
severe symptoms, than did their more upbeat counterparts. The immune system
simply can’t withstand chronic gloom. In a large study of older Americans, his research
team analyzed blood samples to find that pessimist’s actually had weaker immune
activity than did optimists-regardless of their overall health.
There is
also much evidence that meditation is proven to lower or normalize blood
pressure, pulse rate, and the levels of stress hormones in the blood. It
produces changes in brain-wave patterns, showing less excitability. Basically
meditation reduces wear and tear on both body and mind, helping people live
longer and better.
I’ve read
many articles where Physicians are truly blown away by the physical changes or
healings that can be made in the body by meditation. Meditation is so old but
people repackage it and sell it. They call it Relaxation Response,
Transcendental Meditation, Power of Subconscious Mind, The Secret, etc. But it
is so not new. It has been around since the beginning of time. It’s amazing to
think that our brains are literally wired like a computer and that we only use
5% of it. The more you know the more you realize you don’t know. It’s big
people.
So I propose
that we all sit in quiet for just 15 minutes a day not think of anything. Maybe
close the eyes and just go mindless. Now this seems so simple but it’s crazy
how hard it can be sometimes. Don’t get discouraged it takes time. Your mind
starts wondering about the grocery list, the call you need to make, what you
need to do for the day, the neighbor and how loud they are, the chair that you
have to fix, etc. Just laugh at yourself. We all do it but it does keep you
calmer and you do get better at it and begin to really notice the effects.
Think of it like a little dose of medicine that will make you live longer and
better.
I try to get
myself right in the morning because it matters to me what I do in this life
time. I want to be kind, encouraging and empathetic. I’m not into screaming,
belittling or beating people down but rather the opposite. It’s important as a
leader to be an example even though we are so far away from being perfect. None of us are perfect but we have to stay at
it. That’s the difference between winner’s
and a loser’s. Attitude is everything wasn’t just a T-Shirt in the ‘70’s. Like
Oprah says 90% of it is just showing up.
If I can answer questions or help in any other
way please let me know.
