I FINALLY found Lesley Powell
After struggling with failing the State exam multiple times and taking every prep course available to me; I FINALLY found Lesley Powell. I took Lesley’s State prep course, followed her instructions on what to study, learned the flashcards provided with the class and I passed!!! (I then took her Federal Prep Course and passed the Federal exam on the first try!)

I passed the NAB the first try!

I passed the NAB the first try! Thank you for preparing, directing, and supporting me. I sincerely appreciate how much you did to get me ready for the test, and how much you encouraged me by genuinely caring about my future. I'm now ready to carry this success to the next level in our home with our staff, our residents, and their families.
Doug Fuller, Administrator - Hayward, CA

Your program is amazing!!!

Your program is amazing!!!, and Patricia you are the best!!!. I just recently took my Federal Exam and 75% of the questions that were in the review showed up in my test and the weekly quizzing helped me start up my dedication to review and master the questions.
I passed the test !!!!!!! now I'm working on my STATE exam.
I can't express the joy of passing this test. It is a must that anyone who takes the Federal and State exam must enroll in your program if they wish to pass. IT IS A MUST....... More power to Lesley and Patricia.
Thank you so much.
Ed Figalan, AIT - Beaumont CA

It is her techniques that have made me successful

In preparation for the State and Federal exam it is essential to find direction and guidance to be successful. Lesley Powell truly provides the guiding light needed to stay focused and driven. In taking her prep classes she provided the tools, inspiration, motivation and compassion required to conquer what seemed like the unthinkable. There are a multitude of different prep courses available but there is only one that provides an instructor and her assistant Patricia who will individually meet your needs as a student. Lesley Powell is phenomenal because as a Nursing Home Administrator she has once walked in your shoes and knows firsthand what struggles lie ahead. It is her techniques that have made me successful in passing the Federal exam on the first attempt. Lesley not only will provide instruction, but she and Patricia make themselves available for any questions or support you may need throughout the entire process. I highly recommend Lesley Powell for those that have the desire to pass the Nursing Home Administrator State and Federal exams and am forever grateful to her and Patricia for my success.

I could not have done it without you!

I could not have done it without you! Besides the knowledge, you also gave me encouragement and pushed me to accomplish my goal of passing the National exam for Nursing Home Administrator! I will forever appreciate what you guys have done for me! Thank You!!! I will always recommend you guys for anybody who is looking to actually pass the exam!! Thank you again!!
Leo Berkovich, Administrator - Reseda, CA

It felt great to be so well prepared

I took Lesley Powell’s class and was able to successfully pass the Federal Nursing Home Administrator test on my first try. For someone like me who has only been in the nursing home industry for less than a year, it felt great to be so well prepared. I highly recommend taking Lesley’s Federal Exam Prep class.
Kevin G., Administrator - San Diego, CA

An ENORMOUS reason for my passing the first time

“I found Lesley’s program while searching the internet for help to prepare for my exams. I have no background in the health care profession and no experience in any field of profession related to health care. I decided to use her services and I am so glad I did! I was able to prepare well for something I had no clue about and pass my first time taking the NAB exam! I am, of course, using this program as well to prepare for the California State Exam. I am confident I will get the same results as my previous exam. The best portion of this program is the accountability and coaching I received from Patricia. She is a ENORMOUS reason for my passing the first time and I'm sure she'll play the same role in me passing the State exam as well. Thank you Lesley and a huge thank you to Patricia. You two make a great tag team for success!"
Josh Nichol, AIT - San Diego, CA

Accountability and direction I received on a weekly basis were crucial

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Lesley Powell’s Administrator in Training program for helping me pass my Federal exam! I can truthfully say that I would not have passed without the support this program provided. The study materials were effective, but the accountability and direction I received on a weekly basis were crucial. Instead of preparing on my own, I was quizzed on a weekly basis and given helpful feedback and tips before taking my exam.
There are many prep programs out there, but I am confident this one is the most successful! Thank you for the time and foundation you provided! The result of my passing score means that I can now be licensed in the industry I love most!"

All Things Health Care....I was just thinking......

All Things Health Care…..I was just thinking……

Did you know that there is documentation literally scientific study proving that optimists catch fewer infectious diseases than pessimists and are less susceptible to serious health problems in middle and old age. The scariest evidence found in this ongoing 50 year study of the health of two hundred Harvard men is that optimism at age 25 strongly predicts health at age 60. Beginning around age 45, the pessimists begin to develop more diseases of middle age, and to suffer more severe symptoms, than did their more upbeat counterparts. The immune system simply can’t withstand chronic gloom. In a large study of older Americans, his research team analyzed blood samples to find that pessimist’s actually had weaker immune activity than did optimists-regardless of their overall health.

There is also much evidence that meditation is proven to lower or normalize blood pressure, pulse rate, and the levels of stress hormones in the blood. It produces changes in brain-wave patterns, showing less excitability. Basically meditation reduces wear and tear on both body and mind, helping people live longer and better.

I’ve read many articles where Physicians are truly blown away by the physical changes or healings that can be made in the body by meditation. Meditation is so old but people repackage it and sell it. They call it Relaxation Response, Transcendental Meditation, Power of Subconscious Mind, The Secret, etc. But it is so not new. It has been around since the beginning of time. It’s amazing to think that our brains are literally wired like a computer and that we only use 5% of it. The more you know the more you realize you don’t know. It’s big people.

So I propose that we all sit in quiet for just 15 minutes a day not think of anything. Maybe close the eyes and just go mindless. Now this seems so simple but it’s crazy how hard it can be sometimes. Don’t get discouraged it takes time. Your mind starts wondering about the grocery list, the call you need to make, what you need to do for the day, the neighbor and how loud they are, the chair that you have to fix, etc. Just laugh at yourself. We all do it but it does keep you calmer and you do get better at it and begin to really notice the effects. Think of it like a little dose of medicine that will make you live longer and better.

I try to get myself right in the morning because it matters to me what I do in this life time. I want to be kind, encouraging and empathetic. I’m not into screaming, belittling or beating people down but rather the opposite. It’s important as a leader to be an example even though we are so far away from being perfect.  None of us are perfect but we have to stay at it. That’s the difference between  winner’s and a loser’s. Attitude is everything wasn’t just a T-Shirt in the ‘70’s. Like Oprah says 90% of it is just showing up.

All the best,

Lesley

All Things Health Care....I was just thinking.......

All Things Health Care........I was just thinking........

Over the Holidays I had a few conversations in social settings where the people said “Do you have to have a license to do that? You have to have a degree?” They were truly shocked at such a crazy idea. And I always say as it’s not the first time it’s come up, “ Yes……Skilled Nursing is regulated second only to nuclear power plants. No to mention we are the leaders in providing care for the sick and elderly.”  So I’ve decided a quick education is needed for  those who would like to become a license Skilled Nursing Home Administrator and at the same time everyone else who thinks there is no standard to the position. Education seems to be at the root of all misunderstandings.
Different states vary on their requirements so you would need to contact the NHAP, Nursing Home Administrator Program, for your State.  Some states require that you take a State Test before you can be licensed and some say that it is ok just to take the Federal Test to be licensed in their state. You can go to the www.nabweb.org and get information on a federal level and also state information. It is the best starting point. All states are required to take and pass the Federal Exam before becoming a licensed Administrator. As a licensed Administrator you can also be the Administrator for a Hospital. As for keeping your license current you again would have to follow the states rules for compliance in this area. The www.nabweb.org  again is the best starting point for this information.  I would start with the NAB and then go to your state NHAP. Some states will also have other requirements such as a sort of internships such as in California they call it  a Preceptor AIT Program, where you will work your program with a mentor who will then also sign off on your hours before you are eligible to take your State and Federal Exam. Go to www.administratorintraining.com for more information.
We all have New Year’s Resolutions. I think part of the problem in this particular misunderstanding and really for all other misunderstandings is that people usually talk and think more about themselves then they listen or wonder about things or people around them. It’s interesting when I talk to the various people in just my small world most all of them with maybe one or two exceptions really just talk about themselves and in fact if you start to say something you can tell they don’t care and aren’t listening. Maybe this truth, coupled with the fact that I’m a Scorpio and getting anything out of me is like getting blood from a stone, is why I don’t talk much about myself is that people don’t care. I remember back in my Texas debutante Cotillion (ka-tillion) days when I was , you guessed it, at a Cotillion at the Country Club and my Dad was off by himself leaning against the wall with his tuxedo and bow tie all crooked, hair crazy and brown lacassie boots and he said “how ya doing’. I just looked at him because he looked so wrong there and I said” fine. How  you doing?” He said “you know people ask you that but they really don’t care how you’re doing. And nobody gives the truthful answer. Everyone just says fine but there not always fine. I don’t like small talk much”. I looked at him and just walked off. But I remember it always. He was and still is right.
On that note I propose that we all think less about ourselves and more about the other person and the world that they live in.  That we respect   their jobs, families, struggles, wins and losses of life.  The world is so much bigger than just “me”.
If I can answer questions or help in any other way please let me know.
All the best,
Lesley
